This book is easy to read and very sensible. It helps you understand the basic facts about keeping fit, for a lifetime and not just based on the latest fad method.I found it to be educational regarding basics of nutrition and exercise. The importance of reasonable weight training to add more fat burning capacity to your body is a key factor that I learned.
Also, basics on nutrition are a reference I have never stopped using. The book shows you how to calculate how many calories you must limit yourself to, in order to lose weight. Keeping track of calories in a daily diary really works, and most foods are identified as okay to eat, its all about moderation and being smart about what you consume each day and how much.
I have lost 30 pounds in 12 weeks by following this book and its easier to keep at it because the concepts are common sense. Having read this book you will have excellent, medically based knowledge about the real science of nutrition and weight loss.
Jim Karas is not insulting or condescending in his delivery; being overweight was something I did not like and I agreed with his perspective on it. I found it motivational. Jim encourages you to eliminate the excuse that one should accept the fact that you are overweight and that its "okay". Its not okay if you want to live longer and feel better and enjoy life more. You have to want to be healthy and be serious about it! Jim is right, without this mental shift you will not succeed in any weight loss plan.
My best wishes to all of you who want to change your life and start looking and feeling better. Go for it, its well worth it.

Business Plan for the Body Jim Karas 9780755310470 Books Reviews
Very informative... I learned some new tricks and I have been dieting and exercising for a long time...
This book works if you apply the information, use common sense, and calorie count. I recommend this book if you need motivation to kick off a weight loss plan.
I found it very motivating, but my only objection is, based on the whole idea of calorie control. My point is Where the hell I am going to find caloric information regarding recipes and other complicated dishes we usually eat in restaurants. There are numerous dishes that from my point of view are very dificult to calculate the calories in order to control the "revenues". In general very simple and direct, easy to read and a lot of important information, good to know the logic behind diet-exercise-state of mine relationship.
I like the concept of treating your workouts like another appointment on the calendar, and understanding how that attitude will make your successful. When it comes to the actual workout advice, it's nothing special.
This book is all about common sense. The whole science of dieting is all about numbers. If you can find out your metabolic rate and then plan your calories and exercise accordingly, you will be successful at weight loss. When you come right down to it, as Jim Karas mentions throughout this book - it is the amount of calories in versus the number of calories expended.
I recommend this book highly because it helps you to determine how many calories you should be taking in and debunks many of the myths people have about why they are heavy. It also has a sensible exercise program.
The nutrition, exercise and diet info is solid, well-researched and up to date with the latest info (even suggesting such tidbits as drinking green tea with each meal to burn an extra 50 calories more a day). The author also looks at the latest diet fads and reveals the myths behind the worst of them. The motivational messages are (no surprise) written from a "business plan" point of view but should work for those who need that daily affirmation of their "game plan" to keep them on track or for those who need a tough love approach to stay on track. The author's no nonsense, pull no punches style may be just the thing for some reluctant wanna-be fitness buffs. If that fits your profile, this is just the book for you. Otherwise, you'll find the same basic info in other books out there.
I bought this book a few months ago as I began to get back into my exercise regime after a layover. Yes, much of the information here can be found in other places, but Karas pulls everything together nicely and his writing style makes for an interesting and entertaining read without scolding or preaching. I have always balked at the idea of keeping a food journal, which is one of the activities Karas highly recommends, but I decided to try it for once. It was an eye-opener and I've taken more care with my eating. I don't diet but I've always exercised. I bought the Spri bands, which I use in conjunction with hand weights. I don't know how many pounds I've lost in the past 3-4 months but I've dropped around 3 pants sizes. I feel much better. My clothes fit better. And my running (which is my main exercise) has improved greatly.
