I bought this book the other day and I'm happy that I did. It offers practical strategies that will engage your classes without a bunch of overly complicated crap that no reality based teacher has the time to decipher. I'm pretty sure the author is British which makes me happy since I've wanted to defect since I found out we won the Revolution. I just really like the accent, drinking afternoon tea and driving on the wrong side of the road. Furthermore, British history teachers always seem to create fantastic stuff that addresses both skill and content. Another bonus? There aren't any stupid state or national standards sucking up the pages in this book and convoluting its practical layout. Give this man your money and get some sleep because your lesson plans are finished. For the record, I don't know the author from Adam's house cat. He didn't pay me to write this review, but I will gladly accept a cut of the hefty revenue he'll receive after people read this recommendation.

Great read all the way through, I will take the advice and i will implement a few new strategies to my pedagogy.
I didn't know what to expect from the book but it has exceeded any expectations I had. It is enjoyable to read; not like a scholarly thesis paper, but in simple, easy to follow text that tired History teachers can easily comprehend. I have no regrets buying this book and am excited to implement some of the strategies in my classroom.
Although I have been teaching for over 20 years, I'm always looking for new ideas to spice up my lessons. So, after reading the reviews, I decided to check out this book. There are some interesting ideas and strategies for both middle and high school classes.
I know the author is British, so of course many activities were related to lessons in European history. However, it bothered me to find so many lessons about Hitler. There is so much more to world history than the period of WWII! I know I can take a strategy and use it to teach other topics in history, but somehow the examples from the book do not inspire me to think of other applications.
Maybe I should check out Volume Two... or maybe another book.
