A great read. Don't start it unless you have the time to finish it in one sitting. Andrus knows the region, the politics, the militaries and the importance of the South China Sea area. Today's news headlines mirror the "fiction" he began writing several years ago.
This dynamite thriller is a must-read for all politico-military junkies. Having spent 20 years piloting P-3 Orions, I can attest to Andrus' nail-on-the-head accuracy of covert flight operations in the South China Sea. A great romp through politics and world events, THE ASIAN IMPERATIVE is a great thriller and not so far-flung fiction.

This reads like events actually unfolding in real life. This geo-political thriller is like a ticking time-bomb. When will the lid blow? The details of naval ordinance and their capabilities is impressive. Read the book, so we won't have to read it in the paper.
fascinating tale of military political struggles in the South China sea area. No one really knows what is going on and the ending comes suddenly to wrap up the plot well. Insight into the structure and timing of military endeavors. The author was a navy doctor? reads more like a CIA guy.
he Peoples Republic of China (PRC) covets the South China Sea, its fishery, and the riches under its seabed. Japan, the Republic of China, the Republic of the Philippines, the Socialists Republic of Vietnam, and other nations boarding the sea have territorial claims on sections of it; sections now being claimed by the PRC. This is a recipe for disaster, and the basis for this novel.
The author weaves a complicated, complex, and condensed story allowing the reader to view how governments make decisions, prepare alternative plans, and attempt to avoid a head on collision that would lead to war. A hands-on president balances the advice of his advisors, each approaching the event from a different perspective, while attempting to understand the motives of key players with opposing ambitions in foreign governments.

Super book showing the many convoluted paths used to keep our country informed about world happenings. You get a greater appreciation of the issues facing the the Asian world, and the USA. Not an easy read but well worth your time.
